MA2212 3D Camera Tech - 3 Scenes Homework

28 Days Later

For the first scene I chose the movie 28 Days Later.  This scene is a little bit into the movie after one of the characters wakes up in a hospital not knowing what has happened since he has been in there.  He then decides to leave and see what's going on.  The extreme wide shot above show him walking around the city trying to find someone or anyone.  I think the shot works because it's meant to show the lack of people and the sense of being alone in this new world.  There are several show in this section that help to convey this feeling.  I chose this one because it shows the abandoned car, all the stuff scattered around the street and a general lack of life anywhere minus the lone bird in the sky.  Again I think the shot is effective in showing a lack of file as I believe was intended.

Matrix Reloaded

Next I chose a fight scene from Matrix Reloaded when Neo is fighting Seraph, the program that protects the Oracle.  The reason I chose this shot was the extreme angle of it, directly over head.  There are several different kinds of shots in this fight scene but this one you don't really see that often in fight scenes, or at least I haven't.  The reason I think they chose to use this angle is to kind of mirror the platform they are fighting on and how treacherous it was to move around on.  And these individuals must be skilled fighters to do so.  Notice that the shot frame is a similar shape to the table, long and skinny, pretty sure this is not just a coincidence.  I think this type of shot helps to add that little extra bit of tension to the scene.

 Rango

Finally we have Rango in a scene towards the end when he is facing down Jake the rattlesnake.  I chose this shot because of the way the film makers use it to lead the audiences eyes and have them look at what they are supposed to be looking at.  In this case it's the last bullet in Rangos six-shooter which ties to other dialogue and scenes earlier in the movie.  With the gun being in the foreground and Rango in the background, just a little out of focus, your eye is drawn to the image closer to you.  To add to that we see light coming from most of the open slots of the bullet chambers except one where his last bullet lives.  Kind of screams LAST CHANCE to prove yourself.  And as you can see on Rangos face he knows it.  So in summary I would say that this shot achieves it's goal of showing Rangos thoughts and feelings at this moment and it makes the viewers remember the previous scenes where talk of one bullet was used.
